Short version: we never receive your files.
Files you compress
Your GIFs are never uploaded. They are read directly from your device into your browser's memory, processed by a WebAssembly build of Gifsicle running in your own browser tab, and written back out as a download. ZipGIF operates no upload endpoint and no file storage, so there is no copy of your file for us — or anyone else — to access.
Accounts and personal data
There is nothing to sign up for: ZipGIF has no login and no payment flow. Your display preferences (such as your light or dark theme preference) are stored in your browser's local storage and never transmitted. The only personal data the site itself collects is what you type into the Contact form, covered in the Contact messages section below.
Cookies and tracking
ZipGIF itself sets no cookies. Your theme and language preferences live in your browser's local storage and are not transmitted. Pages do load third-party resources: Google Fonts (the Inter typeface) and Google Tag Manager, which may in turn load analytics tags. Those third parties may receive ordinary request information such as your IP address, browser type, and the page you visited, and may set their own cookies. Your GIF files are never uploaded and never shared with any third party. When advertising is enabled in future: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this site or other websites. Google's advertising cookies enable it and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites. You may opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ads Settings and via www.aboutads.info. This page will be updated before any advertising is enabled to name the vendors in use.
Contact messages
If you use the Contact form, we collect the name, email address, and message you enter, so we can reply to you. The message is sent to the site's contact mailbox through the hosting provider's SMTP service. No retention period is stated here, because none is fixed in the site's code.
Server logs
Serving the page itself involves standard web hosting. Our host may record ordinary request metadata such as IP address, timestamp, and user agent for security and reliability purposes. That metadata concerns the delivery of the web page — it never contains your GIF or anything derived from it.
Children and third parties
ZipGIF is a general tool website and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only personal information the site collects is what a visitor voluntarily types into the contact form (name, email address, and message), which is used only to reply. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the contact form, please let us know through the Contact page and we will delete it. Your GIF files are never shared with anyone: they are processed in your browser and never uploaded. Separately, loading the website itself involves third parties: our hosting serves the pages, Google Fonts and Google Tag Manager receive ordinary request data when pages load, and contact messages pass through our hosting provider's email service to reach us. ZipGIF does not sell personal information.
